
Richard Roundtree
Richard Roundtree (1942–2023) was an American actor, primarily known for portraying private detective John Shaft in the film *Shaft* (1971) and its sequels. This role, considered a milestone in the blaxploitation genre, established him as a cultural icon and earned him a Golden Globe nomination for Best Male Newcomer. His prolific career spanned over five decades, encompassing both film and television. Among his most significant performances are his role in the television miniseries *Roots* (1977) and in films such as *Se7en* (1995). He also appeared in recurring roles in series like *Desperate Housewives* and *Being Mary Jane*, showcasing his versatility. In 1994, he was honored with an NAACP Image Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his lasting impact on the entertainment industry.
