
Rita Karin
Rita Karin (born Rita Karpinowicz; Wilno, October 24, 1919 – New York, September 10, 1993) was a Polish-American actress. A Holocaust survivor, she began her career in Yiddish theater in Poland before emigrating to the United States, where she continued to act on stage. Beginning in the 1970s, she established herself as a respected character actress in film and television, specializing in roles of mature Eastern European women. Among her most significant performances are her roles as Aunt Sonya in *The Big Fix* (1978) and Yetta Zimmerman in *Sophie's Choice* (1982). Another of her notable performances was in Paul Mazursky's *Enemies, A Love Story* (1989). For her performance in *The Big Fix*, she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress, her most important accolade.
