Rita Renoir
Rita Renoir, stage name of Monique de Geyter (Paris, 19 January 1938 – Paris, 4 May 2016), was a French actress, dancer, and theatre director. She gained international fame in the 1950s and 1960s as the leading star of the Crazy Horse in Paris, where she contributed to elevating strip-tease to a form of performance art. Her career soon extended to arthouse cinema, collaborating with prominent directors. Among her most significant performances are her roles in Michelangelo Antonioni's *Red Desert* (1964) and Federico Fellini's *Satyricon* (1969), which established her as an icon of European experimental cinema. Starting in the 1970s, she dedicated herself primarily to avant-garde theatre, founding her own company with which she staged innovative and provocative works. Although she did not receive any major official awards, her main recognition lies in her status as a muse for important filmmakers and in her influential transition from a cabaret artist to a leading figure in experimental theatre, a path that marked her multifaceted career.
