Robbie Robertson
Jaime Royal "Robbie" Robertson (1943-2023) was a Canadian guitarist, singer-songwriter, and composer, best known as the lead guitarist and principal songwriter for the rock group The Band. For them, he wrote timeless classics such as "The Weight," "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," and "Up on Cripple Creek," characterized by a unique narrative style and deep roots in traditional North American music. After the group's breakup, marked by the celebrated farewell concert *The Last Waltz* (1976), Robertson embarked on a solo career and began a prolific and long-lasting collaboration with director Martin Scorsese. He composed the scores for many of his films, including *Raging Bull*, *The Color of Money*, and his final work, *Killers of the Flower Moon*. With The Band, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and received numerous honors, including the Order of Canada, for his fundamental contribution to musical culture.
