Robert Crumb, born in 1943, is an American cartoonist and illustrator, considered a central and founding figure of the underground comix movement. He emerged artistically in the 1960s in San Francisco, becoming an icon of the counterculture. He is the creator of iconic characters such as Fritz the Cat and Mr. Natural, and the co-founder of the seminal magazine *Zap Comix*. His graphic style, characterized by dense cross-hatching and an often grotesque and satirical depiction of American society, is unmistakable. His most famous works also include the cover illustration for Janis Joplin's album *Cheap Thrills* and his monumental illustrated adaptation, *The Book of Genesis*. His influence on alternative comics worldwide is immense. Throughout his long career, he has received the industry's highest honors, including his induction into the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1991 and the prestigious Grand Prix de la ville d'Angoulême in 1999.
