
Robert Swann
Robert Swann (1945-2006) was a British actor, known for his long and prolific stage career, particularly with the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC). On the London stage, he played major roles in numerous productions, earning a nomination for the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Mike Leigh's *Goose-Pimples* in 1982. His career also successfully extended to film and television. On the big screen, he is primarily remembered for the role of Fielding in the Palme d'Or-winning film *The Mission* (1986), directed by Roland Joffé, alongside Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons. He also appeared in several successful television series, including *The New Statesman*, *The Professionals*, and *Poirot*, demonstrating great versatility. Recognised for his strong stage presence and professionalism, Swann is considered a significant figure in 20th-century British theatre, capable of moving with equal talent between classical repertoire and contemporary productions.
