
Robert Vaughn
Robert Vaughn (New York, November 22, 1932 – Ridgefield, November 11, 2016) was an American actor whose career spanned over six decades. He achieved his first major acclaim with the film *The Young Philadelphians* (1959), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. His international fame is inextricably linked to the role of the elegant spy Napoleon Solo in the celebrated television series *The Man from U.N.C.L.E.* (1964-1968), which established him as a cultural icon of the 1960s. In film, he is remembered for memorable performances as the gunman Lee in *The Magnificent Seven* (1960) and the ambitious politician Walter Chalmers in *Bullitt* (1968). His prolific career continued with roles in films such as *The Towering Inferno* (1974) and *Superman III* (1983), and in numerous television productions, including the British series *Hustle*. In 1978, he won an Emmy Award for his performance in the miniseries *Washington: Behind Closed Doors*.
