Rod Brasfield

Rodney Leon Brasfield (1910-1958) was an American comedian, known primarily as one of the stars of the Grand Ole Opry radio show. His career was defined by the comic persona of the "country bumpkin," a character characterized by a drawling delivery, dry humor, and worn-out, oversized clothing. Joining the Opry cast in 1947, he quickly became one of the audience's most beloved performers, famous for his comedy routines often performed as a duo with fellow performer Minnie Pearl. In addition to his success on radio and stage, Brasfield had a prominent role in Elia Kazan's film *A Face in the Crowd* (1957), where he played a character that mirrored his public persona. For his significant contribution to country music entertainment, he was posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1987, his highest honor.
