Samuel John "Sam" Bottoms (October 17, 1955 – December 16, 2008) was an American actor and producer. His film career began very early, with his debut in Peter Bogdanovich's acclaimed film *The Last Picture Show* (1971), alongside his brothers Timothy and Joseph. He achieved international fame for his role as the young soldier and surfer Lance B. Johnson in Francis Ford Coppola's war masterpiece, *Apocalypse Now* (1979), which remains his most iconic and recognized performance. Throughout his career, he frequently collaborated with Clint Eastwood, appearing in films such as *The Outlaw Josey Wales* (1976) and *Bronco Billy* (1980). Also active in television, he participated in several productions, including the miniseries *East of Eden*. A versatile character actor, although he did not receive major awards, his contribution is inextricably linked to some of the most significant films of New Hollywood.
