Sebastião Salgado

Sebastião Ribeiro Salgado, born in Brazil in 1944, is a world-renowned photographer and photojournalist. After an initial career as an economist, he dedicated himself fully to photography in 1973, working with agencies such as Sygma, Gamma, and Magnum Photos, before founding his own agency, Amazonas Images, with his wife Lélia Wanick Salgado in 1994. His work, almost entirely in black and white, is characterized by long-term projects that explore social and environmental themes on a global scale. His most celebrated works include *Workers* (1993), an exploration of manual labor; *Migrations* (2000), dedicated to human migration; and *Genesis* (2013), a tribute to the planet's most pristine places. For his extraordinary contribution to photography, he has received numerous international awards, including the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts. He is also a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and, with his wife, founded the Instituto Terra, a reforestation project that reflects his commitment to the environmental cause.
