Seiji Miyaguchi

Seiji Miyaguchi (November 15, 1913 – April 12, 1985) was a Japanese actor, best known for his long and fruitful collaboration with director Akira Kurosawa. His most iconic role is that of Kyūzō, the taciturn and lethal master swordsman in *Seven Samurai* (1954), a performance that earned him the Mainichi Film Award for Best Supporting Actor. Before establishing himself on the big screen, Miyaguchi had a solid career in theater as a member of the Bungakuza company. His filmography includes appearances in other seminal Kurosawa films, including *Ikiru* (1952), *Throne of Blood* (1957), and *Yojimbo* (1961). Thanks to his intense yet controlled screen presence, he is considered one of the most important character actors of post-war Japanese cinema, capable of bringing great dignity and depth to his characters.
