Serge Merlin

Serge Merlin (1933-2019) was a French actor and director whose career was divided between theatre and cinema. Known for his deep voice and intense stage presence, his name is linked to significant theatrical collaborations, notably with director Peter Brook, for whom he played a key role in the monumental production *The Mahabharata*. In cinema, he achieved international fame for his role as Raymond Dufayel, the "Glass Man," in Jean-Pierre Jeunet's *Amélie* (2001). His other notable film performances include roles in Andrzej Wajda's *Danton* (1983), which earned him a César Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and Maurice Pialat's *Under the Sun of Satan* (1987). His artistic excellence was recognized with the prestigious Molière Award for Best Actor for his performance in Eugène Ionesco's *Exit the King*.
