Sergei Bodrov Jr.

Sergei Sergeyevich Bodrov, known as Sergei Bodrov Jr., was a Russian actor, director, and screenwriter, the son of director Sergei Bodrov Sr. His film debut was in his father's film *Prisoner of the Mountains* (1996), a role for which he won the prestigious Nika Award for Best Actor. He rose to fame with the role of Danila Bagrov in Aleksei Balabanov's cult film *Brother* (1997), which made him a generational icon of post-Soviet Russia. He reprised the role in the highly successful sequel *Brother 2* (2000). As a director, he debuted with the film *Sisters* (2001), winning the Grand Prix for Best Debut at the Kinotavr film festival. His promising career was tragically cut short in September 2002, at the age of 30, when he was killed by an avalanche in the Karmadon Gorge, North Ossetia, during the filming of his second film as a director, *Svyaznoy*.
