Sergey Dreyden

Sergey Dreyden, born Sergey Simonovich Dontsov (Novosibirsk, September 14, 1941 – Saint Petersburg, May 8, 2023), was a Russian theater and film actor. Trained at the Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography, he had a long and prolific career on stage, collaborating with major Saint Petersburg theaters such as the Bolshoi Drama Theater. His film career peaked in the 1990s, gaining widespread popularity with his leading role in the film *Okno v Parizh* (Window to Paris, 1993). His most celebrated performances also include those in *Fontan* (1988) and in Aleksandr Sokurov's monumental single-shot film *Russkiy kovcheg* (Russian Ark, 2002), where he played the Marquis de Custine. His talent was recognized with numerous awards, including two Nika Awards, the most prestigious Russian film award, and the Golden Mask for his theatrical work, establishing him as a central and respected figure in both post-Soviet cinema and theater.
