Shih Chun
Shih Chun, the stage name of Chang Po-shen, is a Taiwanese actor who became an icon of the wuxia genre through his prolific collaboration with director King Hu. His career is inextricably linked to leading roles in masterpieces of martial arts cinema, such as *Dragon Inn* (1967) and the Cannes award-winning *A Touch of Zen* (1971). In these works, Shih Chun embodied an atypical hero figure: the scholar or intellectual unwillingly drawn into conflicts and combat, a character who favored cunning over brute force. This measured and thoughtful portrayal clearly set him apart from the other stars of the genre. His partnership with Hu continued with other notable films such as *The Fate of Lee Khan* (1973) and *Raining in the Mountain* (1979), cementing his status as the director's signature actor. For his fundamental contribution to Chinese-language cinema, he received the prestigious Golden Horse Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012.
