Shunji Kasuga
Shunji Kasuga was a Japanese industrial designer, primarily known for his crucial role in developing the exterior design of the Casio G-Shock watch. Working closely with engineer Kikuo Ibe in the early 1980s, Kasuga was responsible for creating the iconic protective case and rugged aesthetic that defined the product. Launched in 1983, his innovative design, conceived to withstand extreme shocks and vibrations, revolutionized the watch industry. His career at Casio saw him involved in the design of numerous other products, including calculators and other watch models. Thanks to his vision, the G-Shock became a cultural phenomenon and a global commercial success. The original design of the DW-5000C model received major awards, including the prestigious Good Design Long Life Design Award in Japan, solidifying Kasuga's legacy as a key figure in 20th-century industrial design.
