Bilingual, fluent in Gaelic and English, she began her career at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin but achieved international fame for her acclaimed portrayal of Saint Joan in George Bernard Shaw's play, a role she successfully brought to London and Broadway. For her work on the New York stage, she received two Tony Award nominations. Her stage career also includes iconic roles such as Pegeen Mike in *The Playboy of the Western World*.
