Stan Laurel

**Stan Laurel** (birth name Arthur Stanley Jefferson; Ulverston, United Kingdom, 1890 – Santa Monica, USA, 1965) was a British comedian, writer, and director, renowned for his partnership with Oliver Hardy in the legendary comedy duo "Laurel & Hardy."

In the duo, Laurel portrayed the naive, clumsy, and often childlike character, prone to crying and inadvertently causing disasters, contrasting with Hardy's pompous irritability. Beyond being a brilliant performer, Laurel was the creative mind behind many of their gags, actively contributing to the screenwriting and direction of numerous short films and feature films.

His comedy was based on slow reactions, hilarious facial expressions, and unique physical comedy. Among their most iconic films are *Il compagno B* (The Music Box, 1932, an Academy Award winner), *Fra Diavolo* (The Devil's Brother/Fra Diavolo, 1933), *I figli del deserto* (Sons of the Desert, 1933), and *Allegri vagabondi* (Way Out West, 1937). Stan Laurel is remembered as a comedy genius and a pivotal figure in cinematic history.
