Suryono is an Indonesian visual artist, primarily known for his work in conceptual photography and video art. Born in Bantul, Yogyakarta, he trained at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI), establishing himself as one of the most significant voices of his generation. His artistic practice explores themes such as memory, identity, social dynamics, and daily life, often through an approach that blends documentary elements with meticulous staging. One of his most celebrated photographic series, "The Grand Family," addresses the theme of loss and family ties through powerful symbolic images. His work has gained widespread international recognition, with participation in major biennials as well as group and solo exhibitions across Asia, Europe, and Australia. Among his numerous awards are the Biennale Award at the Jakarta Biennale and the prestigious Sovereign Asian Art Prize, which have consolidated his reputation on the global art scene.
