Suzanne Courtal, born Suzanne Couteau (Paris, 30 March 1896 – Vernon, 27 October 1978), was a French actress, known primarily for her long and prestigious career at the Comédie-Française. She joined the celebrated company in 1927, became its 396th *sociétaire* in 1938, and remained with it until 1957. As a character actress, she specialized in portraying mothers, governesses, and confidantes, excelling in both the classical repertoire, particularly the comedies of Molière, and contemporary works. Her stage presence and impeccable diction made her a leading figure of 20th-century French theatre. She also had a significant film career, appearing in over fifty films in supporting roles, often directed by major directors such as Sacha Guitry. For her contribution to the dramatic arts, she was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour.
