Teiji Takahashi

Teiji Takahashi (1926-1959) was a Japanese actor and a prominent figure at the Shochiku film studio during the 1950s. His career, though brief, is inextricably linked to director Yasujirō Ozu, for whom he played memorable roles in masterpieces such as *Tokyo Story* (1953), *Early Spring* (1956), *Tokyo Twilight* (1957), and *Equinox Flower* (1958). In his performances, he often embodied the figure of the post-war "salaryman," an ordinary man grappling with social and family transformations, bringing a measured and melancholic acting style to the screen. For his role in *Early Spring*, he won the prestigious Blue Ribbon Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1957. His promising ascent was tragically cut short by his death in a car accident in 1959, at the height of his success, leaving an indelible mark on the Japanese cinema of his era.
