Thomas Bach

Thomas Bach, born in Würzburg, Germany, in 1953, is a German lawyer, sports administrator, and former fencer, and the ninth President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). His sporting career culminated with a gold medal in the team foil event at the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games. After his retirement, he began a career in sports administration, becoming an IOC member in 1991 and holding various positions, including Vice President, before his election as President in 2013, succeeding Jacques Rogge. His tenure is marked by the introduction of Olympic Agenda 2020, a set of strategic reforms aimed at making the Games more sustainable, credible, and youth-focused. During his presidency, he has managed global challenges such as the postponement of the Tokyo 2020 Games. For his contribution to sports and diplomacy, he has received numerous international awards and honorary doctorates, including the Seoul Peace Prize in 2020.
