
Tohru Emori
Tohru Emori (江守 徹, Emori Tōru), born in Tokyo on January 25, 1944, is a Japanese actor, voice actor, and stage director. A prominent member of the Bungakuza theater company since the 1960s, he has built a multifaceted career spanning classical and modern theater, film, and television. On the small screen, he is celebrated for his performances in numerous *jidaigeki* (historical dramas), including the iconic role of Akechi Mitsuhide in the Taiga drama series *Ougon no Hibi* (1978). His deep and recognizable voice has made him one of Japan's most acclaimed voice actors; he is best known as the official voice of Lieutenant Columbo (played by Peter Falk) and has voiced anime characters such as Captain Nemo in *Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water*. For his significant contributions to the arts, he has received major honors from the Japanese government, including the Medal of Honor with Purple Ribbon in 2007 and the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, in 2014.
