Tom Pedi (1913-1996) was an American character actor known for his roles as gruff, working-class characters, often with a New York background. His career took off on Broadway, where he appeared in major productions, including the original stagings of *A Streetcar Named Desire* (1947) and *Guys and Dolls* (1950). For his performance in the musical *A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum* (1962), he received a Tony Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical. On the big screen, Pedi is best remembered for his role as Caz Dolowicz, the irascible subway motorman, in the 1974 thriller *The Taking of Pelham One Two Three*. He also appeared in films such as *The French Connection* (1971) and in numerous television series, solidifying his image as a reliable supporting actor for roles requiring authentic urban grit.
