Toshie Negishi, born in Tokyo on February 12, 1954, is a Japanese actress. Her career began in the 1970s in avant-garde theatre, particularly with Shūji Terayama's Tenjō Sajiki company, before she established herself in cinema. She has collaborated with some of Japan's most prominent directors, starring in works by Akira Kurosawa such as *Kagemusha* (1980) and *Ran* (1985). Her versatile filmography includes significant roles in films like Juzo Itami's *Osōshiki* (1984), Takashi Miike's cult horror *Audition* (1999), and Kiyoshi Kurosawa's *Tokyo Sonata* (2008). For her performances, she has received numerous accolades, including the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Supporting Actress for *Uhohho tankentai* (1986) and the Best Actress award at the Yokohama Film Festival for *Kaze no katami* (1996), solidifying her status as a leading figure in Japanese cinema.
