Tsutomu Tatsumi

Tsutomu Tatsumi, born in Tokyo on March 9, 1973, is a Japanese actor and voice actor, primarily known for his iconic roles in two Studio Ghibli masterpieces. He achieved international fame in 1988, at the age of 15, by voicing the protagonist Seita in Isao Takahata's animated film *Grave of the Fireflies*. His performance, filled with pathos and desperation, is considered one of the most moving in the history of animation. In the same year, he played another memorable role, that of Tatsuo Kusakabe, the caring father of the two protagonists in Hayao Miyazaki's acclaimed film *My Neighbor Totoro*, demonstrating remarkable versatility. Despite the success he achieved at a young age, his voice acting career did not continue full-time, as he pursued a professional path outside the entertainment industry. His performances, however, remain a benchmark, recognized by critics for decisively contributing to the emotional impact and lasting success of both films.
