Vera Sacharowa
Vera Sacharowa, born in Moscow in 1898 and died in Rome in 1989, was a Russian, naturalized Italian dancer, choreographer, and teacher. A leading figure of the Italian avant-garde in the early twentieth century, she is considered one of the main interpreters of Futurist dance. Her career was closely linked to the director and critic Anton Giulio Bragaglia, with whom she collaborated intensively at the Teatro degli Indipendenti in Rome from 1922. Her choreographies, such as *Dance of the Explosion* and *Dance of the Machine Gun*, broke with classical tradition, exploring mechanical, geometric, and anti-naturalistic movements in line with the movement's aesthetics. Subsequently, she opened her own dance school in Rome, training generations of dancers and contributing significantly to the evolution of modern dance in Italy. Her work is recognized as a fundamental contribution to the liberation of choreographic gesture from academic canons and to the affirmation of a new bodily language on the Italian theatrical scene.
