
Verna Bloom
Verna Bloom (August 7, 1938 – January 9, 2019) was an American actress, known for her impactful roles in New Hollywood cinema. Her breakout role was in Haskell Wexler's film *Medium Cool* (1969), for which her performance earned critical acclaim. She later starred alongside Peter Fonda in the western *The Hired Hand* (1971), a role that earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She solidified her reputation in the genre by working with Clint Eastwood in *High Plains Drifter* (1973). Her most widely known role is arguably that of Marion Wormer in John Landis's hit comedy *Animal House* (1978). Her career also includes the memorable portrayal of Mary, mother of Jesus, in Martin Scorsese's *The Last Temptation of Christ* (1988), and numerous television appearances.
