Víctor Fosado

Víctor Fosado (1931-2002) was an influential Mexican designer, jeweler, and gallerist, a central figure in the promotion of folk art and modern design in Mexico. Starting in the 1950s, his gallery on Niza Street, in the Zona Rosa district of Mexico City, became a cultural landmark. There, he exhibited both works by avant-garde artists and high-quality folk crafts, elevating the latter to the status of design and collector's items. As a creator, Fosado distinguished himself especially in jewelry, crafting pieces in silver and stone that fused modernist aesthetics with pre-Hispanic motifs and techniques. His commitment to promoting craft traditions culminated in his role as co-founder and first director of the Museo Nacional de Culturas Populares in 1982. Through his work, he made a decisive contribution to defining the identity of 20th-century Mexican design, solidifying his legacy as a bridge between modernity and tradition.
