Vivean Gray
Vivean Gray, born Jean Vivien Gray (Cleethorpes, 20 July 1924 – Shoreham-by-Sea, 29 July 2016), was a British-born Australian actress. Born in England, she emigrated to Australia in 1952, where she built a solid career in theatre, radio, and television. She became a well-known face for her role as Ida Jessup in the drama series *The Sullivans* (1976-1983), for which she won two Logie Awards for Best Supporting Actress. Her film career includes the memorable portrayal of teacher Greta McCraw in Peter Weir's film *Picnic at Hanging Rock* (1975). International fame came with the role of the iconic and cantankerous Nell Mangel in the soap opera *Neighbours* (1986-1988). Due to the intense negative public reaction to her character, which made her a target of verbal abuse, she decided to retire from acting. She returned to live in England, where she led an extremely private life until her death.
