Wang Deming
Wang Deming, better known as Wang Jinxi (1923–1970), was a renowned Chinese oil worker and a heroic figure of Maoist propaganda. His career is inextricably linked to the development of the Daqing oil field in the 1960s, where he led the 1205 drilling team. He became a national icon, nicknamed the "Iron Man" (Tie Ren), for his tireless dedication and spirit of sacrifice, symbolizing self-sufficiency and hard work. The work for which he is best remembered is not a text, but the legendary act in which he jumped into a cement tank to mix it with his own body and prevent a well blowout, an act that embodied the slogan "In industry, learn from Daqing." For his exceptional contributions, he was repeatedly named a "National Model Worker," one of the highest civilian honors in China, and was elected a member of the 9th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 1969. His image remains a symbol of the socialist work ethic.
