Wolfgang Schenck
Wolfgang Schenck (30 July 1913 – 5 March 2010) was a German aviator and an officer in the Luftwaffe during World War II. Initially a dive bomber pilot flying the Junkers Ju 87 Stuka, he became a key figure in the development of fighter-bomber tactics, completing over 400 missions. He later transitioned to fighter aircraft, distinguishing himself as one of the foremost experts on the Messerschmitt Me 262 jet fighter. He led "Kommando Schenck," an experimental unit tasked with testing the Me 262 in the fighter-bomber role. During the conflict, he was credited with 18 aerial victories, in addition to the destruction of numerous ground targets. For his valor and leadership, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, one of Germany's highest military decorations. After the war, he continued his aviation career, working as a civilian pilot in South Africa.
