Yella Rottländer

Yella Rottländer, born in Munich in 1964, is a German actress and costume designer, known primarily for her child acting roles in the 1970s, particularly in the works of director Wim Wenders. Her debut came in 1973 with a small part in *The Scarlet Letter*. Her most famous performance is that of the young Alice in *Alice in the Cities* (1974), a role that earned her critical acclaim for her extraordinary naturalness and became iconic in the New German Cinema. She collaborated again with Wenders, playing the frame-maker's daughter in *The American Friend* (1977). After leaving acting at a young age, she pursued a successful career as a film and television costume designer. Although she did not receive any individual awards for her acting, her performance in *Alice in the Cities* is considered a fundamental contribution to the film's success, which won the German Film Critics Award for Best Feature Film.
