Yoshiko Shinohara

Yoshiko Shinohara is a Japanese entrepreneur, known as the founder of Tempstaff, one of Japan's largest temporary staffing agencies. Born in 1934, Shinohara founded the company in 1973 in a small Tokyo apartment after observing the flexibility of the labor market abroad. Her initiative was pioneering at a time when the lifetime employment model prevailed in Japan, offering new professional opportunities, especially for women. Under her leadership, the company, now known as Persol Holdings, has become a global giant in the human resources industry. As a result of this success, she became Japan's first self-made female billionaire. Her work has been widely recognized in the business world, cementing her status as an innovator in the Japanese labor market. She has also dedicated a large portion of her wealth to establishing the Yoshiko Shinohara Memorial Foundation, which supports the education of young students, particularly in the fields of science and nursing.
