Zoe Yadira Saldaña Nazario, born in Passaic on June 19, 1978, is an American actress of Dominican and Puerto Rican descent. After beginning her career as a dancer, she made her film debut in *Center Stage* (2000). She achieved international fame by playing iconic roles in some of the most successful franchises in history: Nyota Uhura in the *Star Trek* reboot series (starting in 2009), Neytiri, princess of the Na'vi, in *Avatar* (2009) and its sequel, *Avatar: The Way of Water* (2022), and Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with *Guardians of the Galaxy* (2014). Her participation in these films has established her as one of the highest-grossing actresses of all time, making her the only performer to have appeared in four films that have grossed over two billion dollars worldwide. Her work has earned her numerous awards and nominations, including several Saturn Awards, and in 2018, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in recognition of her significant contribution to the film industry.
