Zoltán Latinovits

Zoltán Latinovits (1931–1976) was one of the most influential and celebrated Hungarian actors of the 20th century, known as the "King of Actors." His theatrical career began in Debrecen and Miskolc, culminating at the Vígszínház in Budapest. He was renowned for his intense and intellectual acting and his distinctive voice, excelling in poetry recitals, particularly of Attila József's work. In cinema, he left an indelible mark with iconic roles. Among his most memorable performances are those in Zoltán Huszárik's "Szindbád" (1971), considered his masterpiece, "Isten hozta, őrnagy úr!" (The Toth Family, 1969), and "Az ötödik pecsét" (The Fifth Seal, 1976), both directed by Zoltán Fábri. During his lifetime, he received major awards, including the Jászai Mari Prize (1966) and the titles of Merited Artist (1970) and Excellent Artist (1975). In 1990, he was posthumously awarded the Kossuth Prize, Hungary's highest cultural honor.
