Anthony Franciosa (born Anthony George Papaleo, 1928-2006) was an American actor, known for his intense portrayals of troubled and rebellious characters. Trained at the Actors Studio, he rose to fame on Broadway with the play *A Hatful of Rain*. His acclaimed performance earned him the Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival and an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for the 1957 film adaptation. His other significant roles from the period include *A Face in the Crowd* (1957), *The Long, Hot Summer* (1958), and *The Naked Maja* (1958). In 1960, he won the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama for his performance in *Career*. Beginning in the 1970s, his career also continued successfully in television, where he starred in series such as *The Name of the Game* and *Matt Helm*. He also appeared in international productions, such as Dario Argento's 1982 film *Tenebre*, solidifying his image as a versatile and charismatic actor.
