Arvo Askola (Valkeala, 2 December 1909 – Kuusankoski, 23 November 1974) was a Finnish long-distance runner. His athletic career peaked in the mid-1930s, a period during which he established himself as one of the world's top athletes in his discipline. His first major international achievement was the silver medal in the 10,000 metres at the inaugural European Athletics Championships, held in Turin in 1934, where he finished behind his compatriot Ilmari Salminen. Two years later, at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, Askola achieved the most prestigious result of his career, once again winning the silver medal in the 10,000 metres. On that occasion, he was part of a historic all-Finnish podium, completed by Ilmari Salminen (gold) and Volmari Iso-Hollo (bronze). A prominent member of the generation of so-called "Flying Finns," he is remembered for his consistency at the highest level in the major competitions of his era.
