
Billie Bird
Billie Bird (born Mary Edith Bird; February 28, 1908 – November 27, 2002) was an American actress and comedian. Her career began at a very young age on the vaudeville circuit, performing with her family's act, "The Bird Family." After decades in theater, she became a familiar face in film and television starting in the 1970s, specializing in character roles, often playing eccentric or cantankerous elderly women. Among her most notable works are her appearances in iconic films such as *Sixteen Candles* (1984) as the grandmother, the energetic Mrs. Lois Feldman in *Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol* (1987), and the annoyed airport traveler in *Home Alone* (1990). Her prolific career also includes numerous appearances on successful television series such as *Benson*, *Cheers*, and *The Wonder Years*. Although she did not receive major awards, her greatest recognition was becoming one of the most beloved and instantly recognizable supporting figures of her time, appreciated for her comic timing and memorable screen presence.
