
Charlbi Dean
Charlbi Dean Kriek, known as Charlbi Dean, was a South African actress and model. She began her career as a model in childhood, working internationally in magazines and advertising campaigns. Her acting debut was in the 2010 South African film *Spud* and its 2013 sequel. She subsequently landed roles in international productions such as the horror film *Don't Sleep* (2017) and the drama *An Interview with God* (2018). She gained wider recognition for her role as the recurring character Syonide in the DC Comics television series *Black Lightning* from 2018 to 2021. Her breakthrough role came as the co-lead, Yaya, in Ruben Östlund's satirical film *Triangle of Sadness*. For this performance, she received critical acclaim and posthumous recognition, as the film won the Palme d'Or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. Her promising career was cut short by her sudden death in August 2022.
