
Dominique Michel
Dominique Michel, born Aimée Sylvestre, is one of the most multifaceted and beloved figures in Quebec's cultural scene. Her career, spanning over seven decades, is distinguished by her exceptional versatility as a singer, comic and dramatic actress, and television host. After debuting in the 1950s as a singer in Montreal's cabarets, she achieved immense popularity through her comedy duo with Denise Filiatrault in the sitcom *Moi et l'autre* (1966-1971) and her recurring appearances on the year-end television special *Bye Bye*. In film, she delivered memorable performances, notably in Denys Arcand's films *The Decline of the American Empire* (1986) and *The Barbarian Invasions* (2003), a role that earned her a Jutra Award for Best Actress. For her extraordinary contribution to the arts, she has received Canada's highest honors, including the Order of Canada, the National Order of Quebec, and the Governor General's Performing Arts Award, solidifying her status as a national icon.
