Eduard Franz, born Eduard Franz Schmidt (Milwaukee, October 31, 1902 – Los Angeles, February 10, 1983), was an American actor. His career began on Broadway before he moved to Hollywood, where he established himself as one of the most prolific and respected character actors of his time. Known for his authoritative presence, he often portrayed doctors, officers, and wise patriarchs. His most significant film roles include Professor Carrington in *The Thing from Another World* (1951), the wise Jethro in Cecil B. DeMille's *The Ten Commandments* (1956), and his appearances in classics such as *Johnny Guitar* (1954) and *The Caine Mutiny* (1954). His work also extended extensively to television, with appearances in dozens of popular series such as *Zorro*, *The Virginian*, and *The Twilight Zone*.
