Eiko Matsuda

Eiko Matsuda (Yokohama, May 18, 1952 – Tokyo, March 9, 2011) was a Japanese actress and model, known internationally for her performance in the 1976 film *In the Realm of the Senses* (*Ai no corrida*), directed by Nagisa Ōshima. In this controversial and celebrated feature film, she played the lead role of Sada Abe, a daring performance that earned her the Best Actress award at the Hōchi Film Awards. Before achieving fame with Ōshima, Matsuda had worked as a model and had appeared in several *pinku eiga* productions. Her film career, though highly impactful, was relatively brief. After her international success, she appeared in only a few other films, including *Pink Tush Girl* (1978) and the French production *Cinq et la peau* (1982), before retiring from acting. She remains inextricably linked to her iconic and courageous performance in Ōshima's masterpiece.
