
Emma Thompson
Emma Thompson is a British actress and screenwriter whose career began in the celebrated comedy troupe Cambridge Footlights. She rose to international prominence in the 1990s, earning critical acclaim for her intense performances. In 1993, she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film *Howards End*. Three years later, she won a second Academy Award, this time for Best Adapted Screenplay, for her adaptation of *Sense and Sensibility*, becoming the only person in history to have won an Academy Award for both acting and writing. Her versatile filmography includes acclaimed titles such as *The Remains of the Day*, *In the Name of the Father*, the ensemble comedy *Love Actually*, and the *Harry Potter* series, in which she portrayed Professor Sybill Trelawney. She also wrote and starred in the *Nanny McPhee* film series. Throughout her career, she has received numerous other accolades, including three BAFTA Awards and two Golden Globe Awards, and was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2018.
