Jean-Pierre Sergent
Jean-Pierre Sergent, born in Mâcon in 1958, is a French artist whose career was profoundly influenced by his move to New York in 1982. There, he collaborated with Rupert Smith, Andy Warhol's master printer, an experience that shaped his artistic exploration of screen printing and Pop Art. His work is known for its innovative use of Plexiglas as a painting support. Through a technique of painting and screen printing applied to the reverse of transparent sheets, Sergent creates layered and luminous works that explore themes such as memory, the urban landscape, and the iconography of mass culture. His works have been exhibited internationally, particularly in France, the United States, and Japan, and are held in numerous public and private collections. For his contribution to the arts, in 2010 he was awarded the title of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government.
