
Julian Sands
Julian Sands (Otley, January 4, 1958 – Mount San Antonio, January 2023) was a British actor. After distinguishing himself in supporting roles, such as that of journalist Jon Swain in *The Killing Fields* (1984), he achieved international fame for his starring role as the romantic George Emerson in James Ivory's film *A Room with a View* (1985), a role that defined his image. Known for his versatility, his career included films in a variety of genres, from the fantasy *Warlock* (1989) to the thriller *Arachnophobia* (1990), as well as roles in acclaimed films such as *Leaving Las Vegas* (1995) and *Vatel* (2000). Also active in television, he appeared in series such as *24*, *Smallville*, and *Banshee*. In theatre, he received critical acclaim for his one-man show "A Celebration of Harold Pinter," directed by John Malkovich. An avid mountaineer, he went missing in January 2023 while hiking in California; his remains were found in June of the same year.
