Marie Ault, born Mary Ault (Wigan, 2 September 1870 – London, 9 May 1951), was a British stage and film actress. She began her career on the stage before becoming a prolific performer in British silent cinema. Her most celebrated role is that of the landlady, Mrs. Bunting, in Alfred Hitchcock's thriller *The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog* (1927), where her performance contributed significantly to creating the film's atmosphere of suspense. Her filmography includes over one hundred films, including *The Rat* (1925) and *The Constant Nymph* (1928). Successfully making the transition to sound, she continued to work in supporting roles in notable films such as *Jamaica Inn* (1939), also directed by Hitchcock, and *Major Barbara* (1941). Recognized for her great versatility, she established herself as one of the most reliable and respected character actresses of her time, appreciated for her ability to bring depth to every character she portrayed.
