Giuseppe Cuccu, known as Peppeddu (Meana Sardo, 1928–2011), was one of the most important improvisational poets in the Sardinian language of the 20th century. A leading figure in the poetic competitions on Sardinia's stages since the post-war era, his career evolved through countless challenges with the genre's foremost exponents, such as Barore Sassu and Remundu Piras. His work, which was predominantly oral and based on the ottava rima metric form, is characterized by rigorous logic, an exceptional command of language, wit, and a deep knowledge of Sardinian agro-pastoral culture. Although his art is tied to live performance, his improvisations have been preserved in numerous audio recordings, which are considered a cultural heritage. He also published the written collection "Boghes de Sardigna". For his contribution to the promotion of the Sardinian language and poetic tradition, he was awarded the title of "Maestro di Poesia" (Master of Poetry) by the Region of Sardinia, establishing him as a key figure in the island's cultural history.
