
Phyllis Brooks
Phyllis Brooks was an American actress and model, primarily active in the 1930s and 1940s. She began her career as a successful model, becoming one of the first "Jantzen Bathing Suit girls," before signing contracts with film studios RKO and 20th Century Fox. Her most significant film roles include those in "In Old Chicago" (1937), "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm" (1938), and "Little Miss Broadway" (1938), often alongside stars such as Shirley Temple. She also appeared in several films in the Charlie Chan and Mr. Moto series. Her stage career peaked when she replaced Ethel Merman in the lead role of the Broadway musical "Panama Hattie." Although she did not win any major awards, she gained widespread recognition for her commitment during World War II, becoming one of the first female celebrities to perform for troops in the Pacific with the USO, alongside Al Jolson. She retired from acting in 1945.
