
Renato Romano
Renato Romano, the stage name of Renato Cenamo (Ischia, January 20, 1927 – Rome, July 20, 2013), was an Italian actor. Primarily active between the 1950s and 1970s, he established himself as one of the most prolific and recognizable character actors in Italian genre cinema. His career spans numerous genres, from peplum and Spaghetti Westerns to poliziottesco and comedy. He is best known for his collaboration with director Sergio Leone, appearing in significant roles in films such as *The Colossus of Rhodes* (1961), *A Fistful of Dollars* (1964), and *The Good, the Bad and the Ugly* (1966), where he played the Union captain whose death from gangrene provides a crucial opportunity for Tuco and Blondie. His other performances include roles in films like *Hercules Against the Barbarians* (1964) and in various television productions. Although he did not receive major awards, his contribution was fundamental in defining the landscape of post-war popular Italian cinema, thanks to a versatile screen presence that made him a familiar face to several generations of viewers.
